With the theme โEmpowering Farmers and Youth through Agricultural Innovations and Technology Advancements for Future Generations,โ the 2nd PAA Central Visayas Regional Convention wrapped up the three-day event last 20 September held at Reynaโs the Haven and Gardens in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines.
Attended by 300 licensed agriculturists from the Central Visayas and other neighboring regions, the convention aimed to underscore the importance of strengthening the capabilities of youth and farmers to foster agricultural innovation and modernization for sustainable development of the Philippine agriculture. The theme reflects the growing recognition of the need for involvement of the agricultural workforce and the younger generation for agricultural resiliency.
Dr. Fabio G. Enriquez, PAA Zea mays chapter president, delivered the welcome message and opening remarks. The event was also graced by the presence of Bohol province 3rd District Board Member Hon. Lucille Lagunay who delivered the inspirational message, followed by the message and report on the updates on the Philippine Agriculturists (PA) Bill of Dr. Karen S. Bautista, PAA national president.
To express her support to the agriculture sector, Bohol 3rd District Representative Hon. Kristine Alexie B. Tutor delivered the keynote speech. Rep. Tutor is also the principal author of the PA Bill filed under House Bill No. 9725.
Thirteen plenary speakers from both local and international agencies were invited to discuss various topics on smart and digital agriculture, trade networks, and opportunities for youth in agripreneurship. The convention concluded with the awarding of winners for Best Poster Presentations and nominations for the best convention theme.
Attendees of the 2nd PAA Regional Convention Zea mays Chapter are eligible to earn 12 CPD units as per approval from the PRC Board of Agriculture CPD council.
The convention was a significant step toward supporting the professionalization of agriculture in the region and building a resilient agrarian economy. Its impact will hopefully trickle down to benefit the agriculturists in the region in the years to come.
