Davao Eagle Chapter Leads Productivity Training for Registered Agriculturists

With the theme “Training on Increased Productivity in Changing Environment through Responsive and Transformative Agriculture Programs and Practices,” the Philippine Association of Agriculturists, Inc. (PAA) Davao Eagle Chapter in coordination with the PAA Mindanao Cluster hosted a face-to-face convention from April 24 to 26, 2024, at the Davao del Norte Sport and Tourism Complex in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

The training aimed to equip professional agriculturists from the academe, LGU, private sector, and agriculture students with emerging and innovative technologies and practices to adapt to the changing landscape in the agricultural sector.

Dr. Purification O. Cahatian, a professor and expert in organic agriculture, served as one of the resource persons who presented her discussion on “Responsive and Transformative Technologies and Practices for Sustainable Transitions in the Philippine Agriculture.” Meanwhile, Dr. Karen S. Bautista, PAA National President and Chief Science Research Specialist at Soil and Water Resources Research Division at the Bureau of Soils and Water Management shared insights on “Sustainable Soil and Water Management for Enhancing Agricultural Productivity.” After her technical presentation, she also discussed the salient provisions of the Philippine Agriculturists Bills which is recently making headlines among Registered Agriculturists in discussing their welfare and tenure in government posts.

Discussion on Carbon Farming and Approaches to Climate Change Mitigation and Hydroponics Culture and Biosystems were delivered by Mr. Alvin Angelo A. Salting and Engr. Alex B. Gamutan, respectively.

The second pool of experts include Dr. Roger C. Montepio, Vice President for Research Development and Extension at the University of Southeastern Philippines, who laid the floor for discussion on technologies in postharvest operations.

Meanwhile, Dr. Marila L. Corpuz, Regional Director of DA R-XI, presented the success story of the Mindanao Inclusive Agriculture Development Project or MIADP. Lastly, PAA Davao Eagle Chapter President Dr. Anastacia G. Notarte led the discussion on the PAA Journey and Continuing Development Program.

The training cum Mindanao Cluster Convention also provided a platform for fellowship among Registered Agriculturists to network and exchange ideas on the latest advancements in the field. Through the said convention, the PAA Davao Eagle chapter proved its support to empower the agricultural professionals in the country. Ultimately, the PAA Mindanao Cluster had a resolution to support the enactment of the Philippine Agriculturists Act.
